Summary of the Project “Prevention of Marine Pollution due to PLASTIC WASTE in Dong Hai ward, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province”

🎊📣🎊 After 04 months of implementation (from July – November 2023), Project “Prevention of Marine Pollution Caused by Plastic Waste in Dong Hai Ward, Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province” that conjointly co-hosted by the Scientific Research Institute of Sea and Islands (SRISI) and VNJUST Law Firm was a GOOD SUCCESS ✅

🎯 THE GOAL of the Project is to RAISE AWARENESS of authorities at all levels and coastal communities about: (i) The impact of plastic waste on the marine environment, marine ecosystem, livelihoods and human health; and (ii) Policies and laws related to the prevention of marine environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

✴ The project has attracted widespread participation from all levels of government, departments, unions, and people of Dong Hai ward, Dong Hoi city, and Quang Binh province. The results of the Project show that there has been a positive CHANGE in the PERCEPTION and ACTION of the people of Dong Hai ward in their participation in preventing plastic waste and protecting the environment. The success of the Project is shown through the following statistics:

🐳 BEFORE implementing the Project: 55.3% of respondents DID NOT KNOW about issues related to marine pollution from plastic waste; only 31.7% KNEW and 13% KNEW CLEARLY about this problem.

AFTER implementing the PROJECT: up to 76% of respondents KNEW and 15% KNEW CLEARLY about this issue.

🐢 BEFORE implementing the Project: Up to 70% of respondents answered that they DO NOT KNOW, 25% KNEW and only 5% KNEW CLEARLY about important policies and laws related to the prevention of plastic waste of the state and the province.

AFTER implementing the PROJECT: 73% of respondents answered they KNEW, 13% KNEW CLEARLY and only 14% answered they DO NOT KNOW.

🐟 BEFORE implementing the Project: 53.5% of respondents DO NOT KNOW about local marine pollution prevention programs/activities.

AFTER implementing the Project: up to 70% of people KNEW about these activities, and up to 80% of people had DIRECTLY participated in or COMMITED themselves to participate in local plastic waste prevention activities, such as: the Activity “Collection and Classification of Waste at Source”; the movement “National Day to Collect Waste”, “Say No to Plastic Waste”, the campaign “Clean the Sea – Be Kind to the Ocean.”

🎖🏆👏 At the end of the Project, we awarded Commemorative Trophies, Certificates and gifts to 03 organizations and 16 individuals to HONOR their actions in preventing plastic waste and protecting the environment.

🎉 The Project’s SUCCESS was achieved thanks to the enthusiastic contributions of experts and scientists, the attention and valuable support of leaders of agencies at all levels and media agencies of Quang Binh province, the active participation of SRISI and VNJUST members, and the support of the U.S. Department of State, the sponsor of the Project as well as the administrative support of the Meridian International Center, the main point contact for the Project.
