Prof. PhD. Nguyen Ba Dien is Senior Advisor and Honorary President of VNJUST Law Firm.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien obtained his Bachelor of Laws and Doctorate degree in International Law at Nicolaus Copernicus University (Poland) in 1979 and 1995 respectively.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien has more than 33 years of experience in advising and protecting the interests of countless individuals, organizations, businesses, NGOs, and state agencies on a wide variety of issues, particularly including, inter alia, commercial, maritime, contractual, real estate, dispute resolution, international law, and law of the sea issues, at both national and international mechanisms.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien is one of the first generation of lawyers in Hanoi and Vietnam. He started practicing law in 1991 and in 1998, with 02 other friends, founded Ba Ngoc Hoang Law Firm – the predecessor of VNJUST Law Firm. He has handled more than 1000 different cases and his winning rate is 95% to date.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien is concurrently Chairman of the Scientific Research Institute of Sea and Islands, the institute having the largest number of state-level projects in terms of law and policy on sea and islands in Vietnam until now.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien is also Visiting Lecturer in many diverse subjects, such as International Law, International Trade/Business Law, International Commercial Arbitration; Settlement of Civil, Commercial Disputes Relating to Foreign Factors at top universities in Vietnam, such as Hanoi Law University; University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University; School of Law, Vietnam National University.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien has been regularly consulted and invited to deliver lectures to officials by agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, the National Assembly, and local state agencies on issues relating to international law and the law of the sea; in addition, Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien is also consulted by the Embassy of India, the Embassy of Malaysia, the Embassy of Thailand, and the Embassy of Singapore on such issues.
Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien is also the author of numerous prominent and outstanding publications concerning law of the sea, international law, international private law, and international trade/commercial law in Vietnam.
With magnificent achievements in defending the interests of clients and in consulting and scientific activities, Prof. Nguyen Ba Dien was awarded the Justice Protection Medal, the Third-Class Labor Order, and the Medal for the Cause of Protection of Sea-Island Sovereignty by the Hanoi Bar Association, the President of Vietnam, and the High Command of Navy of the Ministry of National Defense in 2004, 2016, and 2018 respectively.
